Hi all,

on a Cat 4K, I received this error message:

Jun 11 11:23:16: %SW_VLAN-4-VTP_USER_NOTIFICATION: VTP protocol user notification: A received VTP update has the same version number as the VTP database of this switch but different database contents. The update is being dropped. This may occur if the database is updated while a part of the network is down.

This my show VTP status:

VTP Version : 2

Configuration Revision : 7

Maximum VLANs supported locally : 1005

Number of existing VLANs : 8

VTP Operating Mode : Server

VTP Domain Name : MF_COSTSPER

VTP Pruning Mode : Disabled

VTP V2 Mode : Disabled

VTP Traps Generation : Disabled

MD5 digest : 0x8E 0xEC 0xDF 0xC6 0x85 0x54 0x04 0xD8

Configuration last modified by 192.168.138.147 at 10-24-12 21:44:55

Local updater ID is 10.3.3.221 on interface Vl702 (lowest numbered VLAN interface found)

How can I do?

Thanks in advance

Hi,

it seems your switch is receiving VTP update from the neighbour which has the same config number but different content.

You should check VLANs on these two switches and find the difference.

Then decide which VLAN database is correct - i.e. find the VTP server with the correct VLAN database. Make any change in VLAN database on this switch(add an empty VLAN, e.g.). It will increase the config revision number and force all switches in the VTP domain to synchronize with this VLAN database.

Regards,

Milan
