Hello:
Have a Cisco 2900 and HP 4000 servicing my LAN...cross connected. There are times when I can take a patch from the Cisco and patch to the HP and the device is unreachable....put it back to the CISCO and I am fine....port settings are identical...port speed auto negotiate etc...
Any thoughts as to why....it's not a bad port ..have tested it with another device and it is fine...
Thanks

It could be the VLAN settings are not correct.

Can you be a little more specific...I believe it is default settings on switch.

Hard to speculate without seeing the configs of both devices , i would say most here aren't that familiar with the Hewlett Packard gear .

Checked the Cisco and it is as suspected, default vlan with all ports memeber thereof. Looking at the HP now but I believe it will be the same. I will post if anything unusual found, Thanks.

Hi,
Many times i've encountered whereby the port doesn't really perform auto-negotiate when it is set to auto-negotiate the port speed and duplex but it just doesn't happen when a pc/host is plugged into it. Maybe u could try to put a fix value for the port speed/duplex.

This happens when the PC is not configured to negotiate. If the PC is not negotiating (i.e. if it is forced 100-full), then the switch cannot work out the duplex correctly, and falls back to half-duplex. If both sides are auto, it normally works fine.
