upgrading the ws-5505

I'm about to upgrade a 5505 switch with various modules attached. I'm looking for some general tips on doing this. In particular Cisco specifies RAM sizes which do not appear to match the actual file size. For example I'm running 6.4(3) which requires 64M and I'm running it on 32M. The actual file size in RAM is 19M as indicated by the show ver command while the website shows it to be 4M.

Any tips welcome

Cheers

Can you paste the output of "sh ver"?

The show ver is as follows:

(enable) sh ver

I've used Cisco's software advisor which recommends 5.5(19) for this setup. Just wondering if there are any expected problems/hitches I may encounter.

What is the commend to view the CATOS file, it's not the normal show flash!

Cheers

You have a Sup3G which needs only 32M DRAM for it to run 6.x

If you are upgrading 6.4(12) should be good

Ram is where the catos runs , 6.X train does require 64 meg to run correctly for a loaded box , 5.x train was the last train to run on 32 meg .Unless you need some feature that 6.X provides and you don't plan on upgrading then I would run 5.5.20 version . The actual file size of the catos file isn't very big like 4-6 meg like you say . Because the 6.X train provides added functionality that you may or may not use it needs 64 meg to run right . If you only have 32 meg of DRAM run 5.5.20 .
