If I subnet my network can the hosts share the same gateway? For example can they use a gateway that is not on their subnet, or do I need to add a gateway for each of the subnets.

As far as I'm aware, the hosts cannot share the same gateway subnet address. They can obviously share the same gateway, but this needs to be configured with the appropriate addresses for all the subnets it is to service.

In the past I have just used a secondary IP address on the ether port. This will also work for routing more than one VLANS over one interface. the command is entered on the interface as follows IP ADDRESS X.X.X.X M.M.M.M SECONDARY. Hope this helps.

Ok so my router needs an IP for each subnet. Is there a limit on how many Addresses an interface can have?
