Is it a NM-16AM or NM-16AM-V2?
Can you please try the following:
1. Remove the POTS phone line from the modem & connect to an external phone device, can we make/receive calls in it?
2. Reverse telnet into one of the modem that has a known working POTS line:
telnet 192.168.20.52 2033 (assuming we telnet into modem 33)
ATDT
3. Ensure the chassis grounder correctly.
4. Can you try moving the card to another slot or another chassis & see if that helps.
Thanks, Mak

Hello Mak, thanks for yur reply:
It's a NM-16AM
1-we can make recieve calls in the line connected in the modem
2-I tried to ring the phone number with the reverse telnet from the modem, I still have 'no carrier'
3- the chassis is grounded
4-I moved the module card to another slot but i still have the same problem, also I tried another module card.
Thanks Ali

Is this problem seen on all the modems or just a few (on this NM-16AM card).
When you say "also I tried another module card" do you mean you tried another spare card? Did that work or fail? OR tried the same card in another chassis?
I stronly suspect a hardware issue with this card, try another card if possible.
Thanks, Mak

Hello MAK
This problem is seen on all the modems, and tried another spare card (another NM-16AM, and another NM-8AM).
Thanks, Ali

Did the spare card work or not work? Can you post the output of "sh diag" & "sh ver"?
Thanks, Mak

Hello Mak
the spare card didn't work. I early configured a cisco3640 with three NM-16AM, it worked properly, here is it's show diag output:

NM-AM as well as NM-AM-V2 are supported on the c3725.
Can you please confirm that the same cards were used on the c3640 & they worked OR there are different set of cards that work on the c3640 but do not work on the c3725.
If the same card(s) works on the 3640 but do not work on the 3725 then we need to try the follwoing:
1)Just for sanity sake, move to a latest 12.3 main line image.
2)Before upgrading, try a call after removing "modem autoconfigure discovery" from the lines.
3)What is the modem firmware version? show modem version.
Thanks,Mak

Hi Mak
I tried all these steps, installing four (04) different spare cards but it still doesn't work, i have the same problem. I downloaded the 1.2.2 firmware for the modems, after installing it on the c3725, the problem is still occuring. I cant' move to the latest IOS image because i don't have it. After removing 'modem autoconfigure discovery', i have the same problem.
this the output of the 'show modem version' with the downloaded firmawre and without it:

I think you should open up a TAC case to expedite resolution.

hi,
it seems that we have the same problem with our c2610XM w/ NM-8AM module.
what's strange is strange with ours is that it works when used with other analog lines not terminated winthin our buidling.
have you had any luck on this? really appreciate if you can share it with us. we're even confused now on who to blame, the telco or the cisco?
tnx.

Hi,
You have to verify the ground, the chassis must be well grounded if not you have to build an electrical ground for the network equipements.
Thanks, Ali.

Hi Mak
The problem is resolved, it was that tha chassis was connected to a power source not well grounded, when I moved the c3740 in a well grounded place it worked perfectly.
Thanks, Ali

As mentioned in my previous posting proper chassis grounding is very important. Sure do appreciate your inputs.
Thanks, Mak
