hi!
Can anyone tell me WS-C2924M-XL-EN switch is it a layer 3 switch? can i do inter vlan/ip routing with this switch? can i do trunking with a ws-1912-en switch?

No this is older L2 switch only , you will need a L3 device to route between your vlans , not sure about your question on the 1912 , I think the 1924's had trunking capability .

As Glen says, the WS-C2924M-XL-EN is only L2.
As for the trunking; while the 2924M-XL does 802.1q and ISL, the 1900 series only do ISL trunking so you'd be limited to that if you wanted to trunk the two devices.

You will atleast have to get a 3550 or 2948 GL3 to do L3.

Yes the WS-C2924M-XL-EN does support VLANs. Yes it is IMHO suitable for CCNA practice. But it will not route between the VLANs. If you want to do that, you will have to get hold of a separate router that supports 802.1Q, and make a trunk between the router and the switch - that is called "router-on-a-stick".
