Hi,
anyone have a good list or configuration guideline that tells you how to effectively block these instant messaging applications on the PIX firewall?
- AOL Instant Messenger
- MSN Messenger
- Yahoo! Messenger
- ICQ
Have several customers who need this kind of policy enforced in their network.

This URL will come in handy in identifying ports used by these applications.

With this in hand, you should be able to block using access list.

I saw a demonstration for a product from Facetime Communications designed for instant messaging as well as peer to peer transfer managment. Alloed you to block these entirely or based upon authentication have selective use of them.
