D9854 V4.00 Firmware - Cue Trigger Decode Problem

I confirmed Saturday that there is a serious cue trigger (open collector) output problem from D9854s when upgraded to APP V4.00 and FPGA FX100 when upgraded to R35B5. Issue initially reported by one of our affiliates through Cisco TAC after they had them upgrade to V4.00 in an effort to address another issue. They have since rolled back to 3.96 and full functionality has returned.

The problem: Regardless of which DPI event (1 through 5 were tested OTA from the Antenna TV (Channel 30) tier) is received by the 9854, cue trigger 1 output (and ONLY cue trigger 1) always momentarilyswitches state. None of the other cue trigger outputs switch. Further, cue trigger 1’s response is ALWAYS momentary even if the event has a longer duration. Note that the DTMF digit strings encoded by the receiver and output ARE correct, respond correctly to duration commands and are properly decoded in our test bed. Likewise, DPI commands from the received ASI stream are properly decoded and trigger the correct closures in an external DPI decoder.

A 9854 on our currently deployed standard V3.96 checked extensively in our test bed with proper cue trigger operation based on our existing network operations. Same receiver was then upgraded to V4.00 and the FX100 FPGA upgraded to R35B5 based on TACs instructions. Incorrect cue trigger decode operation was observed - DPI decode from the ASI stream through the external decoder and DTMF generation by the receiver remained correct.

These findings and additional data forwarded to designated Cisco TAC personnel for further investigation.

Hi Mark,

We confirmed the issue and it was introduced with the new SCTE35 GPI feature included for D9854 in R4.

A fix is in the make and we will do a maintenance release of the R4. I will keep you posted on when we will be able to do that. My target is in the coming week.

Jordi.

A new code release will be made available mid January for D9854, D9824, D9858 which will combine the fixes for all discovered issues.

Currently running IVT with SVT starting next week and running into January before we do our official release on Cisco.com

Will post link here when released.

Jordi.
