In the design guides I have read, 30 clients is the official maximum number of wireless clients for a 1230 or 1130 series AP. Note: that is total clients attached to the AP, not per each radio. That said, a better performance rule of thumb is no more than 15 clients per AP. That would be the generic number you will probably want to use (depending upon the application - barcode scanning (telnet)?, web surfing? MS Outlook? AutoCAD?, Streaming video, etc.)
However, I have been told, unofficially, that the 1200 and 1100 series access points (at least in autonomous mode) are capable of handling up to 50.
In reality, the application may drive your planning decision. However, if you get into issues and have more than 30 clients on an AP, you may end up having to deal with it on your own.
