Backup of VSOM and VSM 7.5.1

Hello.  I'm running VSOM/VSM 7.5.1 on a single server.  If I go to Server Backup through the Video Surveillance Management Console both "Media Server" and "Operations Manager" are checked (see attachment).  However, the filename only indicates vsms....gz (see attachment).  Documentation for 7.5.1 gives a filename example of "VSOM_vsm-bldg14_backup_20120817.......gz" as if that means both services are being backed up.  Furthermore, documentation for 7.5.1 states:

Select the services to be backed up, such as the Operations Manager or Media Server. All services are selected by default.

A separate backup file is created for each service.

So am I indeed backing up both services and in the event of a restore use the same file for both?  Or am I overlooking the location of the other file?

Usually, multiple backup files are created.  Some of which actually also include the backups of other underlying services as well.  I save all of these files as a matter of procedure, but the 'VSOM_' backup archive should actually contain both the VSOM services configuration and database, as well as the VSMS services backup for that same server.

Cheers.

No.

from the snapshot, you have got only VSMS backup file. ".sql" is the DB configuration backup only for VSMS server.

I extracted the .tar file and caught a screenshot of the files.  Does the attachment resemble a backup that's containing both VSMS and VSOM backup data?

Thanks all for the responses and letting me know there are indeed two separate files.  When I logon to VSOM go to System Settings --> Servers --> Backup and Restore and enabled Automatic Backups that creates the backup for VSOM.  The VSOM backup can then be found when I logon to VSMS and go to Administration --> Maintenance --> Backup and is labeled accordingly VSOM_....

Thanks again.

You are correct,

if it's a co-located server it means server is running VSOM and VSMS services. so Backup for both services are available.

if it's standalone server it means server is running only VSMS services. so backup for only VSMS server are available.

Backup tar.gz file contains complete configuration of server (like, Network, hostname, domain etc..) with DB configuration data (Camera's, Recordings, User's Etc..).

In case of Co-located server, both the backups are important.

&

In Case of restore, it's depends which services needs to be restored, so respective backup is restored.
