VSOM 6.3.2 - Axis 215PTZ - Sequencing/Touring

Hardware/Software:

I am running VSOM 6.3.2.  I have 3 Axis 215 PTZ Cameras (Firmware version 4.40).

My problem:

I am unable to sequence/tour while viewing the VSOM unless I log into the camera web interface directly, then click on the "View Sequence" icon from the live view page.  If I log out of the AXIS web interface, sequencing/touring stops.  Presets are setup on the camera, as well as the VSOM.  Clicking on a preset works in VSOM, as well as the camera.

The resolution I am seeking:

Can I initiate this sequencing/touring from the VSOM?

Thank you,

Mike

Hi Mike,

Unfortunately, that camera does not support touring/patterns, you can only view a sequence of presets while in the actual Axis 215 GUI.

From that camera's help page:

A sequence mode will only run while it is being viewed in a browser window, and will stop when the browser is closed or navigates away from the Live View page.

Since that camera does not support patterns, you will not be able to create a pattern via VSOM (remember, the PTZ config pages in VSOM are sending the configs from VSOM to the camera.  VSOM can only do what the camera supports).

You could create presets, and associate them to scheudles...but with the 215, you can only associate 2 scheduled presets per camera.

Also.  You will want to note, that in the data sheet for this camera on Axis' web site, it states:

      http://www.axis.com/files/manuals/um_215ptz_e_36673_1012.pdf

Pan/tilt/zoom

Auto-flip

E-flip

20 preset positions

Sequence mode

Control queue

Image freeze

Supports Windows compatible joysticks

Designed for operator control*

*Not designed for continuous PTZ movements e.g. Guard tour. For continuous movement, please see Axis network dome offering

If you are looking for something that can do a pattern/tour which would have continuous motoin you should, as Axis states in their 215 doc, check out some of the other Axis Cameras.  there are mulitple Axis PTZ cameras that are supported with VSM.  Many of those do suppour tours (patterns).  It just happens that this specific Axis camera does not.

What if you set the tour on the Axis GUI then want to set up PTZ events in VSOM? If I set the PTZ event to priority 90 would it override the Axis GUI controls?

Thank you Holly!  I appreciate the time and detail you put into this response!

I wish I had an Axis 215 available in our lab.  I'd like to see if there was a way to 'convince' the PTZ that there was a persistent session to it's GUI.  Couple that with the possibility of mcwalters PTZ priority override theory... there could be something workable.

Just a thought.
