RV130 Firmware 1.0.3.55

Hi Cisco support,

The latest firmware update for my RV130 VPN Firmware has failed, leaving it ‘bricked’ from where there is no recovery path other than having to purchase another VPN Router.

This, unfortunately is the SECOND time this has happened with a RV130, causing me unnecessary expense, inconvenience and stress.

I would like to understand what your steps to remedy my appalling disappointment and dissatisfaction with your products?

I would expect no less than the replacement cost of the 2nd RV130 and the RV340 I had to order as the replacement.

sure i can understand your fustration, sure this was noted by Bussiness Unit and improve the service point of view.

 

you can do a factory reset

 

 Cisco RV130 router is on take a straightened paperclip and press down on the reset button for about 10 seconds. This starts the reset process which can take several minutes to complete. If you don't hold the reset button down long enough you might end up only rebooting the device instead of the reset you were intending.

Warning: DO NOT unplug or turn off the router during the reset process. Doing so can result in permanent damage to the device.

Please remember a reset like this one erases every single setting you have ever changed in the past. I strongly recommend trying other methods of troubleshooting before you decide to reset this router.

How to Ask The Cisco Community for Help

Nope, a factory reset does not recover the device. I have tried this on this one and the one before it. The firmware update has corrupted the device, and they never reboot properly, but same with the status LED flashing fast.

 

so that’s two RV130 in the bin. What are you doing to do, about it Cisco?

I believe it is very poor customer service, when the product corrupts itself and there is no other recovery path other than replacement and there is no response from the manufacturer.

 

This is what worked for me:

Updating from the menu broke router.
Plugged computer straight to network modem(DHCP).
Downloaded latest firmware.
Plugged everything back the way it was. (Computer to port 1)
Reset RV130W with paperclip (seemed like it took longer than 10 seconds).
Manually set computer IP address to 192.168.1.(something other than 1).
Navigated to Router at IP 192.168.1.1.
The only option gave me the ability to select downloaded firmware.
This one did not seem to work either, but I did wait about 15 minutes.
Then again Reset (yes, another 15 seconds with paperclip).
RV130W booted with factory reset and new firmware.
Works better now. Hope this helps.

If the firmware update have corrupted the device, try login the router using default IP 192.168.1.1 
it will bring you to a page, and have the options to upload the firmware again.
