RV220W upgraded to firmware 1.0.1.0 and now PPPoE doesn't connect

When my RV220W used firmware 1.0.0.26 the PPPoE login to AT&T/Bellsouth DSL worked just fine. I upgraded to version 1.0.1.0 and now it won't connect. The PPPoE connection still works from my prior Linksys router so there wasn't a change on the ISP side. Has something changed in firmware 1.0.1.0 that requires a change to the PPPoE profile? Any suggestions on how to determine where the problem is?

DSL Modem is a Motorola Netopia (model 2210-02) with firmware 7.7.3r10 operating in Bridged mode.

Jim,

I took an RV220W to the lab and downgraded the firmware from 1.0.1.0 to 1.0.0.26 after making some configuration changes. All of my changes were retained after the downgrade and the router seemed to function properly.

mpyhala,

Thanks for testing the downgrade. I've downgraded my router as well. I'm able to connect to the internet via PPPoE again.

Thanks for your help. Please keep us posted on the new firmware release.

Jim

ARGH. So that's why an older firmware was suddenly available. I better upgrade to 1.0.1.0 again

Isn't PPPoE something we used 10years ago on stoneage adsl or something ?

Firmware version 1.0.1.0 was posted to the download area again today... The release notes say this for the PPPoE problem:

      • After upgrading to version 1.0.1.0, the PPPoE connection might lose connectivity.
      • Workaround: Downgrade the firmware to version 1.0.0.26. Confirm that your PPPoE connection is reestablished. Upgrade the firmware to 1.0.1.0

I tried this and it doesn't work.. I was on version 1.0.0.26 and my PPPoE connection was working fine. Updgraded to version 1.0.1.0 and my PPPoE connection didn't work.

      .

    Jim,

From what I have heard you need to upgrade the firmware and if PPPoE fails downgrade to the previous version. Re-establish the PPPoE connection then upgrade to 1.0.1.0 again. This should restore the PPPoE functionality. This has been tested internally and is the reason that the firmware was reposted.

That was my expectation this morning when I spent time to run the test. Is there some other magic involved? It didn't work for me.

When is this going to be fixed properly??

I have followed a few cases where the problem was corrected and the user was able to connect once again with their PPPOE

connection type. Did you reset the router to factory default after the downgrade of firmware ? If you are still having problems

with this I would suggest that you call into the Cisco Small Business Support Center (1-866-606-1866) and open a case for this.

    THANKS

    riroe,

I tried the different combinations of downgrading the firmware and reseting back to factory defaults and and none of them correctred the problem. I contacted the Support Center you suggested and they said there was no workaround for this issue. This issue was reported on March 31. It would be nice if a firmware fix could be released soon.

I find it very poor, that a firmware which causes such big problems, is still available for download!!

It's been more than 2 months since this problem was reported. I've logged a case with support and now I'd like to know when firmware will be released that will address the problem. I really thought Cisco cared more about quality than this...

Is there a reason why no one is using 1.0.0.30?
