3800 IOS that supports 3DES

Hello

I have a 3825 router and I need to install an IOS that supports 3DES. I have read that 3DES is only supported on certain models that doesn't include the 3800 series. Does anyone know if this is still the case, and if there are plans to change it?

Thanks

John Killilea

Hello John,

as far as I know you can install an image that supports 3DES on a C3800

the right tool is feature navigator

http://www.cisco.com/go/fn

search by platform

I see: there is a C3825 and a Cisco 3825novpn but this just means it misses the HW based encrpytion engine

even C3825 novpn supports 3DES with appropriate image example advanced enterprise with crypto.

the difference is in performance

with the HW module you encrypt more traffic without impacting cpu

Rather there are known legal constraints about where images with 3DES can be used (decided by US government for national security)

Hope to help

Giuseppe

Hello,

Pretty much every platform has 3DES support. You need to look for images

that have "K9" in their name. As Giuseppe said, there are certain

restrictions and you need to have special access to download the K9 images.

If you don't have access, contact your Cisco POC and see if you can get that

access included in your profile.

Regards,

NT
