3945 router will not boot

Frank5by5_2

I have a router I was working on that has suddenly started to boot into ROMMON.

I'm getting:

Readonly ROMMON initialized

rommon > 1

I can see the IOS file when I do a "dir flash0:"

that tells me the flash is acknowledged and read by the router.

I have used a known good flash and the router wont boot from it either.  I can use the flash from the failed router to boot another identical router just fine.

I have looked at other forum discussions which has led me to ensure the CF is firmly seated, and the DIMMs as well.

Am i jumping the gun to think I havea router hardware problem?

Any ideas would be appreciated

One idea is that it may be an issue with the config register. If you can get the router to boot using the image in flash it would be helpful if you would post the output of show version. The value of the config register is in the output near the last line.

Hi,

Please change configuration register value to

0x2102

confreg 0x2102

Jawad

Richard and Jawad,

Thanks for your replies.  I have set confreg to 0x2102 and rebooted, but the problem still remains.  I have noticed that when the IOS attempts to launch the configuration register confirms that it is set to to 0x2102.

I'm really leaning toward a HW problem as the CF works in my other router.  There really isn't anything else configurable unless there is a possibility that the speed setting in the configuration register is not in the 0x2102 parameter, However, if it's not, I dont know how it would have changed, this router worked last week.

might there be a configiguration register speed setting that I can check?

I really appreciate your ideas

Thanks

Frank

Post the entire bootup process.

Frank

I am not sure what speed setting you are thinking about. The obvious one is the console speed. That speed is set in the config register - and the fact that you are getting console output showing that you are in rommon verifies that the console speed setting is correct.

I agree with Leo that you should post the entire bootup process output.
