I am having 4431 Integrated Services Router and wanted to upgrade it with below details.
Current version : isr4400-universalk9.16.06.06.SPA.bin / Everest-16.6.6
Suggested Version : Fuji-16.9.4
Can I go for Fuji- 16.9.4 version from Everest -16.6.6 version
Actually I heard that Fuji 16.9.4 version required a special license.
Tried to search on net but not helped.

It is called Cisco Smart Licensing.

Hi Leo,
I am not getting clarity on upgrade after reading release note, Even nowhere mention whether we can move from Everest to Fuji, neither they have mention about cisco smart license in this release note...…..
Does it require cisco smart license to go for Fuji 16.9.4 version

I do not read that release notes which replied by Leo, it was not shown in the download page (not sure cisco documentation).
the requirement to upgrade to your intention version requirement - ROMMON should be 16.7(4r)
After upgrade for your device to work as expected with all feature you need to register License, that is only method of smart License.(this is not mentioned in the release notes).

Yes, that's why I am very much confused about license (Does this could impact any on current scenario. Is there chance to stop any services if not go for cisco smart license and stick with current available license.)

I would strongly recommend upgrade ROMMON to 16.12(2r) in order avoid CSCvr18589.

I was upgrading ROMMON to 16.12(2r) but continuously getting MD5 mismatch error, I have tried with 3 device same result with all 3 device.
I have pushed the rommon image in bootflash and checked verify MD5 (md5 matched)
run the rommon upgrade command as per release not and follow all steap.
https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/routers/access/4400/cpld/isr4400_hwfp.html
upgrade fail due to MD5 mismatch. Below is output

On the side note, I would like to know the reason for moving from Everest to Fuji.
As you think only to move to Fuji as Fancy, for now, hold your fire.
A few weeks back I was interested to move to fuji, but I could not find any release notes of isr4400-universalk9.16.09.04.SPA.bin
but it's hard to upgrade without reading the release notes, since as of now its blank, i tried to research for release notes all release notes were related to Switch, not that i found..so i stay back(this is my story).
