6509 sub-interface 12.1.27b.E1

I am trying to create sub-interface's on a Cat 6509 w/ a SUP2-MSFC2 running Native IOS version 12.1.27b.E1. For some reason it will not let me create them nor does it seem to even understand the "encapsulation" command. I seemed to run across an article that said somthing to the effect of the 12.1E code will not allow these features and that I need to upgrade to 12.2SX code. Can sombody please tell me if this is true, or tell me why this switch will not allow me to create a sub-interface? I appreciate the help!

Hi,

You need 12.2(X) IOS version to support the sub-interfaces on the switch. This feature wasnot supported in 12.1E train and had been included in 12.2 train.

You have to upgrade your switch to 12.2 train.
