a traceroute-- Why are there 3 different IP addresses at hop 5?

Each

traceroute

send three probes'

If you have multi path then you will see three different hops'

 

Use traceroute x.x.x.x probe/repeat 1 

 

And check result

That means to go next hop you have 3 different paths available.
