I want to simulate an SDN based smart home network. is it possible to simulate a smart home network with an SDN controller on packet tracer?

It is if you understand that there will be limitations.

Are you familiar with such networks?, I'm looking for a help.

Well, in PacketTracer is simple to setup and Cisco provide you many network samples you can study. You can even work with coding if you want to go that far.
All this example below are for IoT and home automation

for the purpose I mentioned, what is the best option among, mininet and cisco packet tracer?
further, Can I extract a dataset by simulating smart home using packet tracer?

I dont know mininet. And I dont know about data set either. PacketTracer is very simples. I See It have programmability feature but never explored

No, I dont think Packet tracer will help u here; PT is just a simulator software based on IOS 12.x and 15.x to simulate simple networks in order to study and learn about networks and networking fundamentals. Also, PT is used to prep (and pass) CCNA exam/cert.
to see what u can do with PT u should go to net academy site and take free PT course; also, in PT software , open File menu and look for " open sample networks" ; there, u can see some labs, sample of working setup labs.

Can you suggest any options that I can work with?

It's not possible in PacketTracer. SDN now-a-days are VMs. More over SDN is to manage network devices like vManage or DNAC.
Smart home is mostly IoTs which are end devices. No much vendor share any simulated IoTs and SDN softwares to manage them.
Did you try programmability in PacketTracer to manage IoTs with some code and custom icons?
Elaborate your requirement, will check if we can find anything.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I'm trying to integrate an SDN controller with a smart home network and I'm trying it with mininet emulator. I would like to know more if you have something to share with. Regards.

Hi, i am also exploring in the same field. I have used mininet to build virtual topology (like 4 hosts & 1 switches & ODL controller). Integrating SDN with home network is looking enthusiastic.
