HI

I am using a bunch of ASR1002-X for PPPoE termination. All of them except one I am using IOS 16.6.7 and provide services to up to 20K subscriber.

On one ASR I installed 16.12.14 IOS, When I try to terminate PPPoE session I get this log:

Aug 19 08:49:45.039: %SSSMGR-5-BB_LICENSE_REQUEST_SENT: Broadband license request sent for 2000 license with configured license count 0

Aug 19 08:49:45.044: %SMART_LIC-5-EVAL_START: Entering evaluation period+

The status of Licenses are:

License Authorization:
Status: EVAL MODE
Evaluation Period Remaining: 88 days, 17 hours, 24 minutes, 52 seconds

(ASR_1000_AdvEnterprise):
Description:
Count: 1
Version: 1.0
Status: EVAL MODE
Export status: NOT RESTRICTED

(ASR_1002X_Throughput_5G-36G):
Description:
Count: 1
Version: 1.0
Status: EVAL MODE
Export status: NOT RESTRICTED

(ASR_1000_BroadBand_2K):
Description:
Count: 1
Version: 1.0
Status: EVAL MODE
Export status: NOT RESTRICTED

I want to ask can I terminate up to 20K Subscriber PPPoE session without any issue regarding Licenses and everything?

Thank you

Hello @Peyman Zadmehr ,

the answer to question 2 is that after the evaluation period you do not lose functionalities as far as it has been discussed about smart licensing. right to use licences are not an option anymore in these newer IOS XE versions.

The answer to question 1: I don't know you can try to terminate more then 2,000 PPPoE sessions on the box hopefully you should be able to go beyond this limit but I'm not sure about this.

It is better to understand what are the real impact of smart licensing on this router before upgrading other ones.

Hope to help

Giuseppe

Trying to understand the issue.

you able to Log users of 20K with out any License ?

But Cisco devices moved to License you need to activate Licese to get that features enabled and work.

Do you have any License to use ? if not contact local cisco SE for support.

Hi

I could have 20K session on ASR1002-X without paid Licenses. I am using Honor-Based licenses.

So Do you mean for working on ASR1002-X we must have PPPoE license in 16.12.14?

Thank you

Hello @Peyman Zadmehr ,

IOS XE releases after 16.9.1 (included ) allows only for smart licensing model no right to use licenses anymore.

>> Evaluation Period Remaining: 88 days, 17 hours, 24 minutes, 52 seconds

Contact your Cisco partner /reseller on how to deal with your issue.

The broadband license looks like to be for only 2,000 sessions.

I have tried to look for more specific info with no luck for ASR 1000.

Hope to help

Giuseppe

Hi @Giuseppe Larosa

Two Questions:

1- Can go beyond 2K?

2- What will happen after expiring Evaluation period, Is it moved to Right-to-Use? or I cannot use the router anymore

Thank you

You have only this for evaluation :

(ASR_1000_BroadBand_2K):
Description:
Count: 1
Version: 1.0
Status: EVAL MODE
Export status: NOT RESTRICTED

After evaluation it stop working technically.
