I have been handed an ASR 901 10G from a new building takeover. Left in an IT closet.
Not sure if I want to play with it or not.
What do they do?
How much will it cost to license any services on it?
Can I reset it? (not clear how based on searches)
..or.. E-Waste it.
Regards,
Bret

Hello @mm_hardware ,
an ASR 901 is a Carrier Ethernet Edge device that can be used for MPLS and L2 VPN MPLS services.
Abour rhe passoword recovery:
https://community.cisco.com/t5/small-business-routers/asr-901-password-recovery/m-p/2555376
that points to:
https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/12249821/asr-901-password-recovery
that has no answer connected to.
However a comment on first thread says i he used CTRL+C during reload to perform password recovery.
You cna check if device is covered by a Contract using
! The Device Coverge tool
https://cway.cisco.com/sncheck/
if the device is under contract would mean that someone is paying for it.
Hope to help

ASR 901 - is good model and you can use carrier-grade branch router, you can play, switch and see you are able to login, so you can see what license it has.
Definitely not a bin item.

I was able to finally get back to this. When trying to enable an interface GigabitEthernet 0/0 and 0/1 I was greeted with
a lack of licensing during my no shutdown command.
Is that for real? I need a license to enable a port?
Before I shut it off..I'd like to know.
Thanks for all the kind suggestions,
Cheers,
Bret
