ASR1002 does not boot new image

Hi all,

I’m trying to upgrade an ASR1002 from:

asr1002x-universalk9.03.13.00.S.154-3.S-ext.SPA.bin




to:

asr1002x-universalk9.03.13.02.S.154-3.S2-ext.SPA.bin

I copied the new file to my bootflash and used the:

“boot system bootflash:asr1002x-universalk9.03.13.02.S.154-3.S2-ext.SPA.bin” command saved my config and reloaded.

However when it boots I get:

Starting IOS XE kernel dump from previous failure.

  Expected completion time is less than 5 minutes.

  System will automatically reboot within 20 minutes.

And the system then boot loops after a few mins. I can get access to rommon and I still have the original image on the flash but I can’t find a way to tell the unit to boot the old image from rommon?

Also how do I get round the above errors to run my new image?

OK so to answer my own question:

rommon 1 > BOOT=bootflash:asr1002x-universalk9.03.13.00.S.154-3.S-ext.SPA.bin
rommon 2 > sync
rommon 3 > reset

If anyone has the correct procedure to upgrade please share! Obviously just changing the

boot system

command is not correct!

I see that

asr1(config)#boot system ?
  WORD   TFTP filename or URL
  flash  Boot from flash memory

I'm using for example

boot system flash bootflash:asr1000rp1-advipservicesk9.03.10.03.S.153-3.S3-ext.bin

I'm not sure

bootflash:<image.bin>

qualifies as URL - try adding the

flash keyword to your boot system

command and see what happens...

Remember to take out any old boot statements and save the config.

Thanks for the replies, I don't think it's the boot statement that is the issues as I can see it is loading my new image:

The problem is after it loads the images I get these errors then it just boot loops after a few mins:

This is your original IOS file, right?  Look at the highlighted item in RED.

Now compare this.

Nice find Leo... it seems like the loaded image that its trying to use for boot is:

asr1001x-universalk9.03.13.02.S.154-3.S2-ext.SPA.bin

Matty, can you show us the output of

show flash

or it might be

show bootflash

Doh! Thanks guys! I'm going to blame my tiredness for not spotting that, I was trying to get things don’t before a 4hr drive home!

Nothing to do with my colleague downloading the wrong image for me!
