ASR1004 RP1

Hi Experts,

We are planning for ASR 1004 RP1 upgrade activity running in ACTIVE/STANBY units ( two ASRs ), with application redundancy.

My question, if I upgrade STANBY unit first and move the traffic to STANBY unit and then upgrade  ACTIVE unit , still both routers can maintain redundancy ?

Or they should have same IOS running on both routers ?

What is the current version, what version is target,

suggest below :

1. take the config backup out of the box.

2. read the release notes closely and see if your config effects your environment.

3. how is failover configured, ?

4. as long as the primary can hold and disable failover you can do upgrade standby and make to manual failover and do upgrade on active.

Hi, please help if the target IOS should be good to go.

Also, We have port channel for WAN (po1 ) and Port channel for LAN ( say po4 ) and there are sub interfaces for LAN port channel ( Say po4.100, po4.200 ) , if I shut the Po1 and Po4 to do the manual failover, by shutting the po1 and po2 , priority will reduce to threshold value ? ( 245 ) and SATNDBY unit will be the new active ?

or Port channel for LAN reduce the value by 20 as per Track 9 and Track 12 ?

high level i do not see any issue -

look at the caveats is this effect your environment :

Hi BB,

Thanks so much for the reply.

Could you please share your view point on my last point

If you better advise or suggestion, you need to provide network diagram how this connected (if you shared already or we missed ?)

Technically i go this way : Active router have high priroty and traffic traverising from Active, you can go ahead and upgrade standby and do testing before you fail over to new upgraded device and do the testing after failover. make sure new code working expected, before you upgrade other one to be save.
