ASR1006 boot from rommon to tftp

SCR-20220328-i6d.png

ASR1006 Router entered as rommon.

I am trying to boot via tftp from rommon.

I found a way in the guide, but which port should I connect the ethernet cable to?

The answer is redundant.

If I need to boot the firmware from ROMMON, that normally means you have physical access to the box.  So this means boot from USB is not just quicker but trivial.

Nobody TFTP-boots from ROMMON anymore.

TFTP boot has the following tasks:

  • Enter the correct IP address details using the correct case-sensitive commands.
  • Make sure the TFTP server is working.
  • Make sure the link is up.

Too many factors to make TFTP-boot work.

I have a drawer full of USB thumb drives.  I stick one in and enter the command

boot usb0:filename.bin

  Voila!

Does ASR recognize usb commands?

Of course.

I have been booting IOS, from ROMMON, using USB flash drives since 2009.

Thanks for checking.

Can you answer the question in the text as well?
