BGP Failover in multihome ISP environment

Hi

I have a setup with multi peering with 2 ISPs. I am running iBGP between the edge routers.

For traffic engineering, i am doing partial advertisement on both backbone using route-maps. I have been facing an issue that whenever one of the backbone goes down, then the advertisement on the other peer is taking time to get readvertise on the active eBGP peer.

is there any way to minimise the advertisement time. I have kept the holddown time to its defaults.

Thanks in advance

Hello,

Have you used  BGP neighbor fall-over command?

How long does it takes ? Could it be related just to default BGP timer: 180 seconds to detect a fail ?

If so you could tune BGP timer using neighbor <ip> timer <keepalive> <holdtime>

Bye,

e
