BGP Route Poisoning

Hello everybody,

I am trying to understand how BGP Route Poisoning works.

"Route poisoning

     - When a router selects a neighbor as the best next hop, it makes sure that the neighbor is not pointing

       back to the local router; it accomplishes this task by “poisoning” the router

       (marking the route unreachable) and sending a withdraw message to that neighbor. "

1) Router A:

Received both updates and select the best path for 200.200.200.0/24 via Router B

2) Route Poisoning:

Router A send a withdraw message about the prefix 200.200.200.0/24 to Router B.

Is it correct?

where does this BGP feature description come from?

I don't believe BGP works this way!

Possibly under some special conditions as discussed here 10 years ago:

It is from SPNGN part 2. The text behind 1) and 2) it was my attempt to explain the process. Thank you for the historical overview 2003
