Hi All,
How can i check the BW of a link that is newly comissioned from service provider.
Suppose i have upgraded bandwidth to 5 MB from a service provider and i want to check it using extended ping command from my router to PE end router.
What is the exact calculation (in terms of size ).....how much will be 5 MB can u please explain that calculation.

Hello Mukul,
we need to consider that so big packets are fragmented before sending them on wire and that they need to be reassembled on the remote end, then an ICMP echo reply of same size has to be sent.
So the bigger the packet the higher is the RTT time.
Taking in account this I would not use a packet size bigger then 50000 bytes that means 34 fragments.
You need to perform the test to see a size that is fine for your needs.
Following the previous example a size of 20000 bytes may be enough for your needs.
