Hi We are going to upgrading ROMMON in ASR1006. I could not see any ROMMON file in bootflash and stby-bootflash. Maybe it was deleted after it was upgraded last time. So our plan is that if we need to rollback, we would use command #upgrade rom-monitor filename bootflash:asr1000-rommon.xxxx.pkg all. But we cannot see the current ROMMON file in the bootflash. Can we use the command to rollback? Thank you!

Please DO NOT perform a rollback of a ROMmon.
What version of the ROMmon are you planning to upgrade the ASR to. And post the complete output to the command "sh platform".

Thank you for your reply. We are going to upgrade to asr1000-rommon.162-1r.pkg
Here is output:
ASR1006# sh platform
Chassis type: ASR1006
Slot Type State Insert time (ago)
--------- ------------------- --------------------- -----------------
1 ASR1000-SIP40 ok 52w0d
Slot CPLD Version Firmware Version

We are going to upgrade to asr1000-rommon.162-1r.pkg
You're good to upgrade. The current appliance is loaded with ROMmon version "15.2(4r)S1".
Copy the ROMmon file into the chassis and, before starting the upgrade process, make sure the MD5 hash value of the ROMmon file matches with the MD5 hash value found in the Cisco website. The fastest way of doing this is copy the MD5 hash value found in the Cisco website and then run the command in the ASR: verify /md5 bootflash:asr1000-rommon.162-1r.pkg 520e306dba4dc2649163e50c740ff593
At the end of the command there should be an output of "Verified" the MD5 hash values match.

Here is my question:
After upgrading the ROMMON pkg, in case the something happen, we need to rollback to original ROMMON pkg. But I can not see the current ROMMON pkg file(asr1000-rommon.152-4r.pkg) in bootflash through command "dir" now. do you think we can use the below command? Thank you
upgrade rom-monitor filename bootflash:asr1000-rommon.152-4r.pkg

upgrade rom-monitor filename bootflash:asr1000-rommon.152-4r.pkg
DO NOT perform a rollback of the ROMmon.

Out goal is to upgrade ios and ROMMON. If something happen after upgrading ios and the ROMMON, which would affect other network, how can we handle the issue? or we just rollback ios, not ROMMON, right? Thank you

Correct. Roll back/downgrade the IOS but leave the ROMmon alone.
ROMmon runs some of the hardware in the ASR itself. If the ROMmon is rolled back to a version which some of the hardware components are not supported, the ASR becomes a brick.
It is worth upgrading the ROMmon but it ain't worth the trouble downgrading the ROMmon unless someone's got a death wish.
