Hello,

Have a situation where I will potentially have a 200MB WAN link coming in to my Core (Cat4006) switch. I am looking at simply placing a 2821 series router with GigE capable interfaces to support this incoming traffic.

My 4006 switching module does not support GigE speeds on the Ethernet ports as it is only a 10/100 card. I do have two 1000Base-X ports on my routing module (WS-X4232-L3), so are there any adapters that will allow me to connect the 2821 10/100/1000 interface to the 1000Base-X interface to benefit from GigE there.

Chassis has a Sup II and the following details are from the sh ver on switch.

I was going to say, 28XX isn't going to have an SFP module, but a 38XX will. There are other ways to do this though. Option 1) The quickest/cheapest way would be to get a fiber optic transceiver patched to the switch... I.E. ISP - Router - Transceiver - 4006. I have a link showing some examples of transceivers here: http://fiberopticcables.stores.yahoo.net/medcon.html You'll need to match the appropriate fiber type to your GBIC and make sure to have the appropriate patch cable. Option 2) Otherwise you can look at a 3825 or 3845 and get an SFP and patch the switch directly to the router.

Either way will work, just depends on your budget.

Patching directly is best for me. I found a listed GigE HWIC that indicates that it is supported in the 2800 and 3800. Am I looking at it wrong? Thanks for all of your input.
