please goto the following link to register for a CCO account. there are no criteria other than basic name, email addy, userID/password.

... for some additional clarification, you can register and get a CCO account for free.

You can only download software / firmware updates if you have a contract (i.e., SmartNet) that allows you to do so (some updates are free / public ... but not for most routers & switches).

If you are looking to download software, as Scott stated, you need to have a software contract.
