Hello Gary,

to check if new hardware is seen correctly you can use

show version

show hardware

show inventory ( if supported)

a new module never used does not appear in configuration file until you start to configure it

What HWIC module is and what IOS version are you running?

posting a show version would be a good idea to get better help

Hope to help

Giuseppe

I will lookup the IOS version later today. I am away from my system.

Hi Gary,

HWIC-1FE on 1841 requires 12.4(20)T, as reported by this document:

Update IOS.

I am away from my system at the moment. Updating the IOS is possible if I can download from Cisco, But they keep telling me that I need to have a valid service request and that takes me down a road of problems. I bought the router through a retail outlet, Newegg.com.

That is correct. You can still acquire a support contract, for example

http://www.ithsc.com/ciscohardwaremaintenance/

I signed up at this site for a support contract to receive the updated IOS from Cisco. I have been waiting for close to 2 weeks for Cisco to honor this contract. Still nothing. What else can I do at this point?
