Cisco 1841 Series Routers (Router A⇔Router B)

CSCO11463349

Level 1

I want to connect router A and router B with a cable and link them up,
"Fast Ethernet 0/1 is up, line protocol is down".
I can't connect normally.

I put the following command in Fa0 / 1 of Router A and Router B.

-Router A-
conf t
interface FastEthernet0 / 1
ip address 192.168.3.1 255.255.255.0
duplex full
speed 100
no shut
exit

-Router B-
conf t
interface FastEthernet0 / 1
ip address 192.168.3.2 255.255.255.0
duplex full
speed 100
no shut
exit

The result of the "sh int" command is:

-Router A / Router B-
FastEthernet0 / 1 is up, line protocol is down
Hardware is Gt96k FE, address is ****. ****. **** (bia ****. ****. ****)
Internet address is 192.168.3.1/24          ← Router B is "192.168.3.2/24"
MTU 1500 bytes, BW 100000 Kbit, DLY 100 usec,
reliability 255/255, txload 1/255, rxload 1/255
Encapsulation ARPA, loopback not set
Keepalive set (10 sec)
Auto-duplex, Auto Speed, 100BaseTX / FX
ARP type: ARPA, ARP Timeout 04:00:00
(Omitted)

I am simply aiming for a connection within the same segment,
Does this series require a serial cable?

I have no idea what caused the connection.

Please kindly advise.
Thanking you in advance.

they should work (you do not serial connection to work p2p link)

FastEthernet0 / 1 is up, line protocol is down

this shows - major as below :

1. cable is not good, so check ethernet cable

2. or one of the side interfaces may have an issue.

if you have a laptop or device, connect to this device the interface should come up as a test

> 1. cable is not good, so check ethernet cable
I am using a "cat5e" crossover cable.
I exchanged it, but the result was the same.

> 2. or one of the side interfaces may have an issue.
I replaced it with another 1841 router and the results were the same.

> if you have a laptop or device, connect to this device the interface> should come up as a test
The PC is currently connected to Fa0 / 0.
After changing Fa0 / 1 to the same segment as the PC, connect the PC to Fa0 / 1
Let's test whether to link up.

You mean when you connect the PC, the Port come up ? on both Router side (when you do reach one ?)

can you post below inforation form each Router :

show run

show version

show interface fas 0/1 (complete output)

Are you using a cross-over cable?

Have you tried with both side's ports configured for auto speed and duplex?

Thank you for your reply.

I made it automatic on both sides, but the result was the same.
This is recognized as an "Auto MDI / MDI-X" compatible device.
