Hello,
Our cisco 2911 router keeps loosing Internet connection every month or two. When I checked the lights on the router, all lights were ON except "activity" light. I think router is getting freeze or something. I always have to reboot the router to bring it back ON. I can't check the logs either as we don' t have syslog server and after reboot, router erases all the logs. Has anyone experienced this kind of issue before? or does anyone know the solution?

Hi Darshan,
When it 'freezes' - did you try to log in (console/ssh/telnet) and check the router logs, CPU usage etc? hat information may help you fix the issue.

You mean DSL modem. if so then yes, modem is connected to the router.

Because you have a DSL modem this makes troubleshooting a bit harder. With a DSL modem and your router acting as a pass-through it is very difficult to determine if your copper line is degraded.
If you are able to somehow pull the NOISE and ATTENUATION value off the DSL modem that would be a good start.

Darshan,
I looked at the thread and checked the configuration. There could be couple of potential reasons for this problem :however I would like you to plrEase answer the following:-
1. As per the configuration ,it seems like this setup is PPPoE in which things are connected as follow :-
Router(fe)-----(fe)modem(atm/rj14)-----telco.
Correct me if wrong.
2. If step 1 is correct , which fe/ge interface connects to the router , send me the output of show run interface gig/fa and show run int dialer 0.
3. What I gonna check if this is a interface issue or router.,
Send me output of show interface gig(number).
4. In case if this is an intermittent issue , have you tried to replace the modem and monitor the behaviour ?
5.I will have to check any specific trap and then will create EEM script to check the outputs of debug pppoe events and debug PPP negotiation .
Thses debugs will help me to identify the cause of internet failure.
6. Since you reported issues only with internet when router freezes , I am hoping at the same instant you are not able to send local traffic across it , if yes please let me know what is evidence of claiming issues to the DSL only , are you facing anything on the modem or any suspeced activity which points to things it is a DSL issue.
7. You should also try to replace the router and see if that helps.
8. We can check any software vulnerability in the platform ,please share the show version output so that I can check the IOS version.
9.,since it is an intermittent , only action is to perform EEm and collect logs during issue occurance.
