Cisco 3560

One of our Cisco 3560 switches has failed. I have a replacement, we use TFTPD64 to back up our configs to a share. I have a the config but I am unsure its 1) in the correct format 2) how to load this on the replacement switch using a console connection and putty.

1) I have attached a screenshot of the open .txt file

2) I tried to copy and paste everything into the switch and that failed.

I am not onsite at the moment so cannot download from the TDTPD64 server onto the switch, any help would be greatly appreciated

Open the file in Wordpad instead of Notepad and see if copy-paste works better...

Hello,

you need to get the .txt file into the flash of the switch.

http://www.omnisecu.com/cisco-certified-network-associate-ccna/how-to-use-putty-to-configure-or-monitor-a-cisco-router-or-switch.php

Otherwise, send the text file and I will try and make a copy/paste version...

As previously noted you need to get the file into flash, you can transfer the file using a terminal emulator that supports xmodem. I don't use Putty so I can't say that it does or doesn't support this transfer protocol. There are several free terminal emulators that do online. If you have an old Windows machine around you can use Hyper Terminal to do this, simply transfer the hypertrm.exe and hypertrm.dll to your emulation machine and launch Hyper Terminal. Transfer the file to flash:

copy xmodem: flash:

Once the file is on flash simply load the config to running config:

copy flash:/backup.txt run

This will load the backup file to the switch.

Sam

Thanks for all your replies and help. I just wanted to ask one more question. Is there anything that can be done when a switch is stuck in 'SYST' They are stuck like this. cannot get in via console cable. fan spins for around 2 seconds then dies down and nothing. Not even pressing mode or power cycling with more pressed in for 15/30 seconds. FYI picture and I have also tried booting up without any cables attached and same.

Hello,

sounds like you have a dead switch. You might want to try and open the chassis, there are a few connectors around the power supply which you can unplug and reinsert.

If that doesn't help, your only option is to return the switch...
