I configured and shipped a Cisco 871 VPN router to a remote office overseas. Upon connecting to the WAN there, we discovered the config was gone. I know I configured it. Anyway I had the tech cut and paste the config into the router again, saved it, and then powered it off to install in the Switch closet. when it was powered up again, we got no connection. After a while we discovered the config is again lost/erased. Has anyone seen this before? This is a far off remote office and getting another one there will be like pulling teeth. Thanks guys.

No problem.

Do a "sh ver" and check the CONFIGURATION REGISTER statement. Is should be 0x2102. If it isn't, then that's the problem.
To resolve this, type "config-register 0x2102" into the config t mode.

I am waiting on a call back now and I will do that. Thanks

Thanks, Jerome. The config register was set to 0x2142. I had it changed to 0x2102, put the config in, saved it and reloaded. The config was retained.
