Hi,
I'm having troubles with a cisco 877 router, it keeps changing itself to either 0x2101 which is good, or to 0x3100 which is bad because it messes up my bautrate to 1200 instead of 9600.
it doesn't seem to matter if I change it, it will still tell me that it will change at next reload.

Configuration register is 0x2101 (will be 0x3101 at next reload)
why does it do this? I have never seen this before.
the command in conf t : configuration-register 0x2101 is not helping, played with wr mem or copy start run neither of one helps.
thanks in advance for taking your time for this issue.

I've never seen this before but 2101 and 3101 sounds like a type-o than anything else.03-31-2011 04:59 PM
I wish it was
I'v checked things over and over again, its sertanly not a typo.
when it starts in 2101 its perfectly fine like a serial session should go, but after one reload it will go to 3101 and thus to bautrate 1200 making it unreadable.
so I switch to bautrate 1200 and if I would give it another reload, it will go back to 9600.
weird stuff...

Hi,
As temporary fix can you try setting console line speed to 9600 in the running and save it?
Regards.

Changing the speed to 9600, and then changing the config value to 0x2102 should help. dont forget to save..
Let me know if this works..

And I wonder if a speed command under line console 0 is the underlying problem.
I have seen symptoms very similar to this where a router was configured under line console 0 with a speed command which specified something other than 9600. The behavior was that it would boot with a different speed on console. A show version would show a different value in config-register. Configuring the config register to 2102 would produce the message that the register would be 2102 on reload. But on reload it would start at 2102, would read the config file, and would set the console speed to the other value.
