may i know which is the fastest speed & way to transfer the IOS file into cisco 870 series router with blank IOS file at memory.

     You can use  Xmodem, Ymodem, and the Zmodem.

Hello,

In additon to what muammer said and good link. you can can increase speed if you want to to copy IOS when you are in

rommon mode of router is console baud rate.

change console baud rate? y/n [n]: y
enter rate: 0 = 9600, 1 = 4800, 2 = 1200, 3 = 2400
4 = 19200, 5 = 38400, 6 = 57600, 7 = 115200 [0]: 7
change the boot characteristics? y/n [n]:

Choose above option of 115200 which ensure ios will be copied at max. spped because default is 9600.
