In cisco 3600, 2600, 3800 routers, connect the router to the tftp server where the IOS is saved and configure both tftp server as well as router in the same submet,
Then give the following commands,
Router(Config)# format Flash
Router(Config)# copy tftp: flash:
when it prompts for the ip address give the tftp servers ip address
Then it will ask for the file name.
Hear please specify the IOS file name with extension as .dat
It will copy the IOS file to the flash.
Then give reload command to boot from the IOS you have copied.
Router# reload
It will boot from the ios which you have specified.
