DHCP Client & HSRP/VRRP with Cable Modem

I doubt this is possible to do but I've been trying to find a solution to this.

My upstream cable modem provider gives me one IP address via DHCP and I would like to try and find a way to setup two routers to use HSRP/VRRP on the WAN interface.

Basically, what I think would have to happen is one router would maybe have to have it's WAN interface shutdown with a tracking command on the LAN interface which would then bring it up.

Also, to not get different IPs from my ISP (since they do it based on mac address) I'd probably have to spoof my MAC address or just use the one that HSRP/VRRP creates.

Of course, both routers would have to have their WAN connected via my switch with a vlan for my cable modem connection.

Let me know if there is anything else I can try.

Thanks

Even if doable (can try EEM kludging), seems an huge overkill.

Routers rarely fail, circuits do a lot more often.

If you want true redundancy, get two internet links.
