DHCP on Layer 2 switch

Hello all -

I have a Cisco layer 2 switch with multiple VLANs on it. One of the VLANs is a user VLAN. The switch has a trunk port to a Cisco router, and all VLANs are being trunked to the router. Router is conifgured as router-on-a-stick.

I have configured a DHCP server on layer 2 switch as follows. However, none of the users are able to get an IP address from the switch when plugged into one of the ports assigned to the user vlan.

ip dhcp pool Users
   network 10.218.4.0 255.255.255.192
   dns-server 10.1.1.99 10.1.1.21 10.1.1.98 10.1.1.97
   domain-name corp.com
   default-router 10.218.4.1

service dhcp

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Hi,

A L2 switch can't be a DHCP server, just put it on the router.

Regards.

Alain.
