I know that in order for host 1 to receive it's IP config from the DHCP server, the command 'ip helper-address 10.1.1.1' would need to be applied to the Fa0/1 interface. Is this true?

Hello,
if Host 2 is in the same subnet/Vlan as the DHCP server, it will get a DHCP address without the need to configure an ip helper address on R2.

Neither host would require helper addressing providing the dhcp server is locally connected to R1 routed interface
