Hello,
I need a little help/ info on typical ISP DSLAM port behavior.
My question is, how do providers adjust(dynamically) the multiplexing scheme or port allocation on a DSLAM?
My Issue:
I have a low tier DSL connection that intermittently drops out. I am using this service exclusively for an IPSEC tunnel with an ASA5505. I have not allowed any traffic over this link aside from the interesting traffic on the tunnel. E.G. I cannot ping my default gateway when the tunnel is active.
I am wondering if the provider is grooming DSLAM ports based upon some mechanism ....possibly ARP? I would think there would be some method by which they dynamically allocate timelsots based upon port activity. I am wondering if my unit is not able to respond and such looses service.
How do they do this?
Your Insight is Appreciated,
Nathan
