Hello,
I have a problem. When I remove the ip address of this sub-interface fa0/0.32 all of my eigrp neighbors lost except this 192.168.11.214 neighbor. Why could it be ?
The configs:

I find it difficult to understand what you are asking. You say that when you remove IP address from fa0/0.32 you lose all eigrp neighbors except 192.168.11.214 neighbor and yet the show ip eigrp neighbor show that there are 7 more eigrp neighbors.
It would probably be helpful if you could show us what the config is before the change and what the eigrp neighbors are before the change, and then show us what the config is after the change and what the eigrp neighbors are after the change. This could help us understand what your situation is.
If you are saying that you remove the IP address from the subinterface fa0/0.32 and eigrp neighbors that had been learned by that subinterface are lost, then that is normal behavior. When you remove the IP address from the subinterface then it can no longer talk IP and any neighbors that had been learned on that subinterface can no longer talk to that router. This is normal.

Dear Rick,
Thanks for your answer.
The change that I made:
I just remove the ip address from this subinterface:
fa0/0.32. The "router eigrp 1001" config is in my first post.
The status before the changes:

I continue to be puzzled by inconsistencies in your posting. For example I do not see any sign that there is an EIGRP neighbor on subinterface FastEther0/0.32 before the subinterface is shutdown.
If all that you did was to remove the IP address from the subinterface, then I do not understand how the subinterface got into a shutdown state, which your post clearly shows that it is shutdown.
Please post the output of show ip interface brief so that we can understand the state of all of the interfaces.

There aren't any inconsistencies this is the configuration of my equipment.
This is the point! There wasn't any EIGRP neighbor on that subinterface! But the EIGRP listens on
that interface because the config (network 192.168.11.0). I don't think that this is a problem.
After I removed the ip address of the subinterface I put that in shutdown status. It's a habit with me,
sorry if this cause you any problem.

Could we see the config on F0/0.100 please? That is where most of your neighbors seem to be detected before the change.
Sorry to make a banale suggestion, but you didn't shut down F0/0 at the same time by any chance? Thought not, but just like to check.
I'm really puzzled what happened to your 192.168.4.22 neighbor - that isn't anywhere near the network you are having problems with, except that it shares a physical interface.
I presume the other end of this trunk is a switch. What is the native VLAN? Could you post all of the F0/0 config including all the subinterfaces?

Hi Kevin,
Thanks for your help.
>Could we see the config on F0/0.100 please? That is where most of your neighbors seem
>to be detected before the change.
Here is the config of Fa0/0.100:
interface FastEthernet0/0.100
encapsulation dot1Q 100
ip address 192.168.0.249 255.255.255.0
no cdp enable
end
>Sorry to make a banale suggestion, but you didn't shut down F0/0 at the same time by any chance?
>Thought not, but just like to check.
I didn't shutdown the Fa0/0 because I could ping all the other neighbors on the 192.168.0.0/24
network.
>I'm really puzzled what happened to your 192.168.4.22 neighbor - that isn't anywhere near the
>network you are having problems with, except that it shares a physical interface.
This is the interface's config:
interface FastEthernet0/0.14
encapsulation dot1Q 14
ip address 192.168.4.21 255.255.255.252
no ip redirects
no ip mroute-cache
no cdp enable
end
I have also lost this neighbor but I was able to ping the remote end too (192.168.4.22).
>I presume the other end of this trunk is a switch. What is the native VLAN?
>Could you post all of the F0/0 config including all the subinterfaces?
See the attached file.

OK, thanks for the information - I'm thinking it through now. The particular thing I was wondering about was whether the address was the highest active IP address in the box at the time the EIGRP was started, in which case it is the router ID. So when you delete it, the RID changes. But I am still thinking through whether this has any repercussions as regards the neighborship.

Sorry, EIGRP is not my strong point. This is where I am reading from:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk365/tk207/tsd_technology_support_sub-protocol_home.html
Just one tip: I would enable eigrp log-neighbor-changes. You might get some clues as to what is going on here.
Don't know whether this document might help:

Kevin,
Thanks for your info. The RID can't be the problem
beacuse:
#sh ip eigrp topology
IP-EIGRP Topology Table for AS(1001)/ID(192.168.17.4)
interface Loopback0
ip address 192.168.17.4 255.255.255.255
end
Thanks for the links, I will walk through and let's
see what I find...
But the whole thing is very strange because,
when I made the changes first I remove the ip address
of fa0/0.32 and I put the subinterface in adm.
shutdown status and all my eigrp neighbors except one
were lost. The one where I was able to see my
EIGRP neighbor was a real interface.
I really don't know what did I wrong...
05-10-2005 06:36 AM
I would start logging adjacency changes, and see what that comes up with.

Kevin and all,
I found the solution. I have to upgrade my IOS
because of bug. I had assistance from
my distributor (he helped me a lot), here is the description of my problem and bug id:
A bug specific to some interface drivers which
lead to EIGRP multicast MAC address to be removed from
interface hardware when listener was removed on one
subinterface only.
The sequence is like that - IP address has been removed
from subinterface, so EIGRP needs to be disabled on that
interface, so EIGRP signals that it does not want to listen
to group 224.0.0.10 anymore (this is IP address used by EIGRP
for Hello packets). Due to the bug MAC address was removed
even despite the fact that EIGRP was still enabled on other
subinterfaces of this physical interface (normally MAC
address should be removed from hardware only when the LAST
subinterface stops listening for EIGRP). End result is that
router stops hearing EIGRP on all subinterfaces of the interface.
bug ID: CSCed67358
05-13-2005 01:01 AM
That's interesting to know, and I'm glad you found the solution.
Could you check that bug number please? I tried to look that one up in the database, and it was about IPv6 and PIM. It describes a similar effect when removing ipv6 pim from a subinterface, but it seems pretty far removed from EIGRP.

The guy who gave me this info said this too:
----
I confirm that you are hitting bug which I suspected. Its
ID is CSCed67358. The bug itself is talking about IPv6 but it
affects all protocols using multicast to propagate Hellos
(IPv6, OSPF, EIGRP, ISIS and so on).
----
So I have to upgrade...

Can you ping from f0/0.100 to those 192.168.0.x neighbors after removing the IP address?
Can you ping from f0/0.14 to those 192.168.4.x neighbors after removing the IP address?
05-10-2005 04:31 AM
Hello,
I could ping all the neighbors' ip but, when
I issue a sh ip eigrp neighbors command I saw only
one neighbors as I wrote before.
Isn't it a cisco ios issue?
