Extend Vlan to remote site

Hi,

We need to extend a vlan to be exist with the same subnet on a remote site

I know it could be done using OTV with either Nexus or ASR

I need to know if there is another way to do this without these high cost boxes ?

We have a Layer 3 WAN connection to the remote site

Thanks

You can also evaluate L2TPv3 to know if it is an option for you.Though it is simple, it has fewer capabilities.

OTV is a more robust approach for Data Centers.

I agree with Hector,

And it could be done over ISR routers.

Yes I agree with you Hector and Julio and many thanks for your comments

I think for ATOM if the customer is running over MPLS . and also think for L2TPV3 if there is simple ip connectivity.

But I think it won't help in case we need to do vmotion. Am I right ?

Also I think L2TPV3 need service provider interaction to configure the connect command on both PE routers on both sides.

The customer connectivity is 2 sites connected through IPSEC tunnel over internet. So Can we build L2TPV3 over IPSEC over internet ? and how to have the same gateway for a VM in the 2 sites in case we move a VM from a site to the other .

Thanks again

Hi Hythim ali.
overlay transport virtualization it will be done also with ASR see the link below :

good luck

The ISR4451 supports OTV with the AX license and would be cheaper than an ASR.

hi Rob,

Thanks

Only we don't have ASR nor Nexus nor ISR

It is only a vpn provided by the service provider

So we have a router on each site connected to PE on provider site.

I think we'll go for L2TPV3 or ATOM in case point to point or VPLS in case of point to multipoint

I see it provide vlan extend to remote site and to be on the same broadcast domain

My question now what is the scenario will go when I  move a VM from HQ to a remote site. How it'll find the same gateway on the new site ?

And do you see all these alternate solutions will be configured by the service provider side only and we won't have any new configuration on our devices ?

Thanks
