how can I choose the proper router for orgnazion's network

Greetings All,

I am a little beginner in network design, and I want to inquire and benefit from the experience of some here as much as possible in the field of routers.

We have an internet line with a speed of 70 mbs, and an old cisco router 2801, and we plan to upgrade the internet speed to 250 mbs.

I want to inquire about what is the appropriate router in this case, knowing that our institution is considered small to medium, and I also want to add a backup internet line. Does it require two routers or one can handle  it?

thank you

check the models and compare :

https://www.cisco.com/c/en_ca/products/routers/4000-series-integrated-services-routers-isr/models-comparison.html

You can use same Router and Terminate 2 ISP links.  ( make sure you take right throuput model which can support both the internet speed or wan links)

Hello,

it all depends on your budget. How many users do you have ? The ISR 1100, or the smaller ISR 900 series, might be enough.

Ideally, a true 'backup' solution would involve redundant equipment, two routers in your case, as that would offer protection against hardware failure as well.

Looks the information scrambled on the side, if you go each model datasheet, you can find more information.

If you like switch module : as below :

I see that there is a difference in the throughput performance of the same router, as in the picture below, what is the difference between them?

Default come with Router, if you like additional throuput, you can buy soft License to increase.

one more thing, could the router handle the sip and data link from ISP?

yes it does same page look at the unified communication.  ( you also need other License for SIP and unified comms)

Note : the more add the performance of the router will be decreased (if you looking to budle all in one, look for higher model, also single box means no redundancy).

thank you balaji.bandy for your response.

how many interfaces are built-in in the router? is it called (Network Interface Modules (NIM)?

thnak you balaji for you respone,

good point to know that when i add more moudle will decrese the performance,

actullay i think it is not recmoended to use in same router data and voice togather, but I already have only one voice gateway router, soo insted of bring another one and use as backup, I though i can use the main router that for internet to be a backup for the voice.

soo after deep in search I find that ISR4000 series more fit with my network, but now i'm thinking more about business continuity.

Greeting Georg,

Approximately 500 are the number of users of the network and many servers, and we have WLC for the wifi network and we are expanding further. Do you not think that the SR 1100 and ISR 900 series are less than our needs?
