HWIC-2SHDSL Hardware Issues

Hi All,

i have a HWIC-2SHDSL installed in a Cisco 1841 (c1841-advipservicesk9-mz.124-24.T1.bin) router. occasionally, the HWIC has issues. rebooting the router brings the WAN link back up for a few minutes. then, it just disconnects. i have found that when i remove the HWIC and re-insert this into the router it resolves the issue. i have seen this happen on several routers and several HWIC-2SHDSL modules. the connection is then up and running for a month or so,..then the issue happens again. the ISP advises they can't see the MAC address of our HWIC.

Has anyone seen issues like this?

thanks kindly

below is the configuration we have on multiple routers.

controller SHDSL 0/0/0
dsl-group 0 pairs  0
  shdsl rate auto

interface ATM0/0/0
bandwidth 1024
no ip address
atm ilmi-keepalive
!
interface ATM0/0/0.1 point-to-point
bandwidth 1024
ip address x.x.x.x x.x.x.x

atm route-bridged ip
pvc 0/33
  cbr 1024
  encapsulation aal5snap

12.4(24)T1 is a pretty old IOS (released February 2009).  Have you tried upgrading the IOS to something recent?

Hi

T

his will be my next step.

the stange thing is, i have about 5 sites that have the exact same router, IOS and HWIC. only 2 of these sites have ever seen the issue. all the others are fine; and we use the same ISP for all sites. it is however very odd that simply disconnecting the HIWIC and re-inserting fixes the issue for a good month, sometimes longer. all LEDs on the router are OK, no errors on the controller, and the ATM interface is UP/UP. also, i have seen that turning off the router overnight and turning it back on in the morning also fixes the issue.

it doesnt make a lot of sense. My colleage has seen some issues in the past with normal WICs, in particular xDSL WICs having this issue, and thinks that removing the card, or powering down for an extended time helps flushout any issues with the card. i found this a little hard to swallow, but it is actually fixing the problem everytime.

ill be updating the IOS shortly

I've got a site with a HWIC-1ADSL and running 15.1(2)T2 and I've got no issues other than the ISP is a basket-case to begin with.
