IR829 LTE/4G connectivity issue

Hi
We currently use the IR809 Cisco router for 3G/4G connectivity, no problems. We have since moved to the Cisco IR829 router.
We have set this up as normal for mobile use but are having issues connecting to Telstra's mobile network.
My understanding is Telstra uses the following LTE/4G bands:- 1,3,7,8,20.
IR829Router#show cellular 0 radio
Radio power mode = online
LTE Rx Channel Number = 1300
LTE Tx Channel Number = 19300
LTE Band = 3
LTE Bandwidth = 20 MHz
Current RSSI = -71 dBm
Current RSRP = -109 dBm
Current RSRQ = -19 dB
Current SNR = -4.3 dB
Physical Cell Id = 0x1CE
Number of nearby cells = 2
Idx PCI (Physical Cell Id)
--------------------------------
1 462
2 383
Radio Access Technology(RAT) Preference = LTE
Radio Access Technology(RAT) Selected = LTE

However, the follwoing show command shows something different:-
#R829Router#show cellular 0 radio band
LTE band Preference settings for the active sim(slot 1):
- Bands 17 19 21 23 24 34 35 37 44 54 55 56 57.

These bands I don't believe are used in Australia for Telstra, Optus or Vodaphone?
I then thought that maybe it was the SIM card I had installed in the IR829 that was the issue ?
However, when I swapped the SIM cards between the IR809 and IR829, the issue stuck with the IR829, thus ruling out a faulty SIM card.
This is what I get on the IR809 which is operational.
IR809Router#show cellular 0 radio
Radio power mode = online
LTE Rx Channel Number = 1300
LTE Tx Channel Number = 19300
LTE Band = 3
LTE Bandwidth = 20 MHz
Current RSSI = -64 dBm
Current RSRP = -104 dBm
Current RSRQ = -19 dB
Current SNR = -7.1 dB
Physical Cell Id = 0xAB
Number of nearby cells = 3
Idx PCI (Physical Cell Id)
--------------------------------
1 171
2 383
3 255
Radio Access Technology(RAT) Preference = AUTO
Radio Access Technology(RAT) Selected = LTE

IR809Router#show cellular 0 radio band
LTE bands supported by modem:
- Bands 1 3 7 8 20.
LTE band Preference settings for the active sim(slot 1):
- Bands 1 3 7 8 20.

The above bands are correct.
This makes me think that it is the modem (MC7430) on the IR829. We also loaded the Cisco recommended modem software for Telstra Australia, but still no joy !
The device code is IR829GW-LTE-LA-ZK9. According to the Cisco product page, "LA" is the correct part number for Australia.

Regards

Michael

Spoiler
Hi

In relaion to the above issue, we decided to install the latest bundle.
ie:- ir800-universalk9-bundle.SPA.158-3.M3.bin.

While loading this new bundle into the IR829 router, we were told that there wasn't sufficient memory in the bootstrap memory.

To ovecome this, we had to remove the orphan1 file from the directory.
After successful installation, the IR829 was able to interoperate with Telsta's LTE/4G bands.

Happy Days !

Hi Woody

Can I ask what speed you are getting. My LTE connection on the IR829 is relatively slow.

Also using Telstra sim, from my iphone, i get 90M/50M (download/upload)

On the IR829, i only get 20M/15M.

Using the 5in1 antenna.

Signalling looks good, RSRQ is a little low (good is above -12 dB)

IR800#show cel 0 radio

Radio power mode = Online

LTE Rx Channel Number =  2950

LTE Tx Channel Number =  20950

LTE Band =  7

LTE Bandwidth = 20 MHz

Current RSSI = -60 dBm

Current RSRP = -99 dBm

Current RSRQ = -14 dB

Current SNR = 6.0  dB

Physical Cell Id = 0x1C9

Number of nearby cells = 2

Idx      PCI (Physical Cell Id)

1              457

2              160

Radio Access Technology(RAT) Selected = LTE
