ISO Versions / Software Adviser

Dear Experts,

i am planning to upgrade IOS of 7606-S router with these specifications:

Version 12.2(33)SRB2

Flash Disk : 512 M

RAM: 1 G

RSP720-3C-GE 2 ports Route Switch Processor 720 Rev. 5.2

7600-MSFC4 C7600 MSFC4 Daughterboard Rev. 1.1

7600-PFC3C Policy Feature Card 3 Rev. 1.1

I have used Software Adviser to choose the right version of IOS, but it shows only these versions based on hardware compatibility, kindly find the attached file.

So what about other versions ? like 122-33.SRE , 15.[0,1,2]S IOS version ? they are also supported for my router ? which one is better to choose, ED or MD ?

Would you please advice me.

Regards,

Ahmed

Hi Ahmed,

Thanks for you kind comment.

Unfortunately, I can not advice you as to what image to install on the 7600 since I don't have any experience with it.

The best way is to look at all the line cards and services modules you have.  With that in mined, take a look at the feature set you are currently using and any feature set that you may be deploying in the near feature. Base on these information, use the feature navigator to look for the IOS you need.  You can also look at the above link (second one) and read the release note for the image you have in mined and decide based on that.  It is absolutely necessary to read the release note for any IOS you choose to download before installing it on your device. I usually don't upgrade to the latest release and pick an IOS that a couple of months old. Also, if you can load the new IOS to a spare chassis and test it in the lab before installing it in production.

Hi Ahmed,

It is better to go with ED version.  Here is a link explaining the difference

http://www.cisco.com/web/about/security/intelligence/ios-ref.html#3

Also, there is IOS version 15 available to download since you have enough memory and flash.

Here is a list of all the available IOS images for your device.

Dear Reza,

Based on my own opinion and after deep investigation, i found out that SRD8 is the right version for me, just have look for it and tell me what do you thing ? just friendly opinion ..

Regards,

Ahmed

Hi Ahmed,

12.2.33-SRD8 has been out since March 2012.  So, it is a few months old and it is ED.  Give it try and load it on a spare chassis and test it.

15.0.1S6 has been out since June.  You may want to test this too sine all the IOS images are going to 15.

Good Luck
