Hi. I'm new to these forums and this is my first question. We currently have a VMHost/Netapp setup between two separate server rooms in the same building. We are researching technology to allow us to move the server room to another building. It is not possible to run straigh layer 2 to this building so we are pursueing different ideas on how to extend the VLAN for the VMHost.
There seem to be a few different technologies out there:
- XConnect/Layer 2 tunneling - Looks like it is available on most routers?
- EoMPLSoGRE - Would have to purchase a 6500 series chassis
- OTV - Would have to purchase a 7K chassis.
Some questions I have is:
1. We would really like to use XConnect or L2TP (or some other Data Center Interconnect ability?) so we do not have to procure new chassis. Can this be done with XConnect?
2. Will HSRP work between the two data centers over XConnect? Over EoMPLSoGRE? Over OTV?
