I have a ##RV215W router
It is connected to the local network through a switch.
When I connect an other router (Linksys WRT54G or Mercusys MV305R ) to this switch as configured to be an access point with static ip and DHCP swithced off, there is a lagging network traffic.
If I disconnect those routers there is no such error.
Meantime, an other router (Huawei) connected same way to the local notwork not causing such problem.
Thanks for any ideas that can help!

Dear Georg,
Problem solved!
Lack of vision on my part: one equipment had same IP address than the RV215W router.
Sorry for all the trouble!

Hello,
it is a bit difficult to understand what your topology is. Are you connecting these devices in addition to the RV, or are you replacing the RV with one of these other devices ?
What do you mean by 'lagging', is the connection just slow, or not working at all ?

Dear Georg,
thanks for super-fast response!
Please see a drawing how my home network is connected.
Cable modem, RV and the switch is in one rack.
Cables from the swith runs to different rooms in my house.
When the WRT54G is connected the traffic is mostly slow and often interrupted.
Not only the internet connection but the local too.
Best regards
Sandor

Hello,
the WRT54G is a rather 'ancient' device as far as I recall ? Either way, is the DHCP server enabled or disabled on the WRT54G (it is enabled by default) ?
Also, how is the port on the switch (and which switch model do you have) configured ?
Also check if the operating mode of the WRT54G is set to 'Gateway' and not 'Router'...

Dear Georg,
The swith is D-LINK DES-1100-24 24-port 10/100 EasySmart.
The WRT54G is set to 'Router'. DHCP disabled, fix IP.
On the other side the same problem with newly bought bought MW305R.
Setting as follows: http://www.mercusys.com/en/faq-123
Best regards

Hello,
try and set the WRT54G to Gateway mode. Are the clients connecting to the WRT54G getting their (correct) IP address from the cable modem ?

Hello,
make sure the D-Link switch has the latest firmware installed, or reset it to factory defaults (page 19 in the attached admin guide PDF...)
